As a part of an ongoing reading program, an Inter house Drama Competition was organized at Yavanika Gardens, Sector 5, Panchkula on 23-May-15. This competition is an annual event and is organized to provide young students a platform to express ideas and emotions that captivate them when they read books.
Mr. Shovon Chowdhury, Delhi-based amateur humourist and renowned author graced the occasion as a chief guest.
The students of four houses of the school in competition with each other presented a collage of theatrical performances adapted from some of the famous books. Directed, designed and acted by students, the four plays presented in the competition were ‘The festival of Eid’ by Premchand, ‘The Speckled Band’ by Sherlock Holmes, ‘Romeo Juliet’ by William Shakespeare and ‘The post office’ by Rabindranath Tagore.
In essence the audience saw the story through children’s eyes, colored by ideas and emotions that captivated Children when they read these books.
Judges for the competition included Mr Parvesh Sethi who describes theatre as his lifeline and has an experience of over six decades in the field, Ms Jagmeet Thind Joy, Features Editor The Indian Express Chandigarh and Captain Atul Sarin , master mariner who holds special interest in dramatics.
The Post Office by Sarvapalli House won the best drama award. Utkarsh Bhatia of Grade VII A and Jasleen Kaur of Grade IX A earned glory to their house by winning the ‘Best Actor (Male)’ and ‘Best Actor (Female)’ award.
