Students of grade IX to XII went for an educational trip to CBRI and IIT Roorkee. They got an opportunity to interact with the scientists and professors at the centres, who introduced them to various innovative techniques of building materials, health monitoring and rehabilitation of the structures, disaster mitigation, fire safety, energy efficient rural and urban housing, techniques to measure earthquakes and build earthquake resistant buildings etc. During the lab visit, students were shown different materials to enhance the quality and strength of material used for building houses. In the bio-concrete research lab, they were shown how bricks are being made by adding microbes like bacillus to increase the life and heal the cracks. They were also introduced to the concept of adding betamine and kerosene to cement to increase the grip of the plaster and increases the life of the house. They were shown different designs of houses which use lesser cement and more of silica gel nanomaterial to keep heat resistant.
At the IIT Earthquake department, they were also introduced to the concept of aerodynamics, were demonstrated pseudo dynamic structural test of buildings, shown shake table, shock table. Seismological techniques to check the intensity of earthquake using carbon smoked paper and sensor. They also the 3D measurement of graphs related to seismic waves.
