The Duke of Edinburgh Scheme/IAYP

The Duke of Edinburgh Scheme/IAYP

The International Award for Young People(IAYP) is the most adaptable and successful youth empowerment program. The Award Programme was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956 as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The aim was to motivate young people aged between 14 and 25 years to become involved in a balanced programme of voluntary self- development activities to take them through the potentially difficult period between adolescence and adulthood.

The basic structure of the Award consists of 4 mandatory sections: Service, Adventurous Journey, Skills and Physical Recreations. There are 3 levels of the Award- Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Award has a presence in over 130 countries and currently has over 7,85,000 participants.

Many students of our school are enrolled for this award. These students have either completed all the four mandatory sections and have won awards or are preparing for the next level. Working under different sections of the award programme, students have developed skills such as time management, teamwork, problem-solving.
