Street Play staged on overpopulation issue

A total of 16 students of classes VII to IX from School’s theatre group, staged a Street Play(Nukkar Natak) – ‘Swarg Mein Prithvi Ka Bojh’ on the subject of problems due overpopulation.

The 14 minute play was staged on the eve of World Population Day to generate awareness about the urgent need for population control in India.

To play was staged in Sector 17 Plaza Chandigarh and caught the attention of bystanders, shoppers and office goers all of whom assembled in large numbers to get a glimpse of the interesting enactment.

The young actors presented a satire which revolved around three main characters- a Farmer (Kisan)-Amar, a ghost (Bhoot) and a Scientist. As the play unfolded, it revealed that all the three finally discover that they have no hope to find a decent place to live in – be it on our lovely planet or up in the skies after death. Swarg (Heaven) and Narak (Hell) are overflowing with an excessive population and close down their doors. Both have long queues both for “waiting list” and “RACs”. The play was scripted and directed by the students of Theatre group ofSchool under the guidance of their teachers.

The message given by the talented theatre artistes of Dikshant international School, Zirakpur was loud and clear — it is high time, people of India make sincere efforts, to put a brake and retard the population spiral.

The play emphasized on how the growing population is leading to unfavorable conditions like deforestation, global warming, unemployment and diminishing resources. Through acts of comedy, songs and entertainment, the play narrated and conveyed an important message that now we cannot afford to wait and think, it is the time to act.
